The nation’s airlines are battling slumping demand amid a widening recession, and newly enlarged Delta Air Lines said Tuesday it will cut flying by 6 percent to 8 percent in 2009.
Delta’s announcement also raised the specter of more industry job cuts.
Most carriers cut flights and jobs earlier this year when fuel prices soared to record levels. Since peaking in July, a barrel of oil has shed about $100 to under $50 as the economic slowdown spread and cut demand. More...
